In this game I have applied a novelty in one actual variant The Catalan, having in my opinion theoretical value.

This game has such background.

In my game vs. Joseph Franzen (Massow memorial) I long, but unsuccessfully tried to find advantage for white in a sharp variant, where white two pawns give. I have continued search and after the end of this game, but also unsuccessfully.

The output from this situation has been found, when I have decided to search for strengthening on one move back. Timothy Harding was the first who, has repeated with me this variant, and naturally I have applied the found Novelty.

Middlegame

In the Catalan white have two pawns sacrificed, hoping to get the attack on kingside. At a one moment my partner, probably, has chosen not the best continuation and the white attack began to obtain the threatening character. But at decisively moment instead of the logical continuation of the attack, I began to go hunting for the black Queen. I succeeded in winning the Queen for the bishop and three pawns. But far advanced connected black passed pawns became very dangerous. I have spent a lot of efforts on the searches decisively continuations. However, Olita Rause has permitted to me to lead the breakthrough, which immediately to the win leads. I will note that also after the best defence white hold the big advantage.

Very interesting game in spite of the single inaccuracy of both sides!

From the debut, where white have used the novelty, the game immediately has gone over in multifigured endgame endgame. Further the position was simplified and at the board rook endgame appeared, where white in spite of the material balance, had the decisive advantage thanks to the possibility to support with king their connected passed pawns.
